Summer Energy Savings when A/C is On

Harry Truman: If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen

Fridge: I can't stand the heat, get me out of the kitchen

The air conditioner (A/C) is used to cool the living space - not the kitchen.  When the A/C is off, the kitchen (because of the oven, dishwasher and the indoor R/F) is warmer than outdoors.  The kitchen is often the hottest room and the R/F's door is frequently opened during cooking when the oven is hot.

Indoor R/F & Window A/C

Window R/F & Window A/C

The Indoor R/F and the Window A/C work against each other.
The indoor R/F warms the home while the A/C cools it.

The Window R/F and the A/C do not work against each other. Although the window R/F consumes more electricity, the A/C consumes less because it does not have to work against the indoor R/F.
